El Aroma del Copal plot

John Richardson (James Brolin) leads the oil company in Central America with an iron hand. He is visited by Jesse Martin (Jay Robberts), an engineer who wants to continue his career in John's company. Jesse can forget about that career when it turns out that a fierce battle is going on between the army and local guerrilla gangs that claim power over the oil fields. The violence blurs the lines between good and evil, while Jesse falls in love with the beautiful native Sybille and an idealistic American teacher. When at one point the army kills an entire village, something breaks in Jesse. He will have to choose between good and evil, his job and his loved ones.
