147 minutes of suspense from start to finish on a beautiful Blu-ray from www.concordehome.de with adjustable German subtitles. The cable car scene was unique, thrilling, and unforgettable.

I wasn't a fan of German crime dramas from the nineties. After the dull stuff with Horst Tappert in the eighties ('Harrie, hole mal den kar'), who had also been seriously on the wrong side during the war, everything had to be faster, more dynamic, more 'real'. The result: stories you had to fill in yourself, full of plot holes that were often impossible to make sense of (see the synopsis here, too. Karl? Simon?), with too many side plots, too much dialogue about trivial matters, and a messy structure. This is one of those. And directed by Dominic Graf, to boot. Well, then you know the rest. For the first forty-five minutes, I sat staring blankly on the couch. What exactly were they doing, who was who, and why? It wasn't until after forty-five minutes that things started to take shape, and even then, I only understood half of it. And that went on for two and a half hours. Admittedly, the finale in the mountains of the Bavarian Alps is exciting, although even there the question remained: who is who, why, and what exactly is happening? I know, it's just me. You have to love it. That's it.
