I have to see this again! I watched this movie as soon as it was in the video store. My sister rented it and I was 8 years young. This movie really made an impression. It was very intense. The film also always had that hopelessly sad atmosphere. This is partly due to the gloomy score. But thanks to Gibson, you still had hope. As I saw it in 1989, it was a compelling post-apocalyptic film with eerie locations. And then the men from Fender and Fender themselves. All this very intimidating and very exciting with fantastic fight scenes. A lot of things were really horror for me. For example, the well scene. Horrible!

Van Damme says little and often I like the quiet type. Gibson goes through life broken and gloomy. He doesn't joke and he doesn't say a word too much and only when he thinks it's necessary. So the opposite of John McClane. Gibson most resembles the Mad Max character. I also see parallels especially with Mad Max 2.

Maybe I should honor my memories of this film because it can be very disappointing now, but I already know from experience that this nostalgia is so strong that this youth sentiment is much deeper and stronger than my current and especially critical view of films. Youth sentiment wins. The experience used to be much more intense and that has therefore acquired a very valuable and lasting place in my memory.

Perhaps this is of added value for some.

Mediocre film in which a cyborg has information to save humanity. The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world, and there is not much more story or any kind of build-up in this film. Bad music and bad acting. The fight scenes (especially the final) are still worth watching (just 2.5 stars).
