"Someone's gotta take the hit."
The cunning con man Teddy is on the run from hit man Viddick. He decides to hide at a police station, but Viddick also goes there. The novice agent Valerie Young is also present at the station, who is not aware of any harm.

Entertaining but at the same time rather unbelievable and forced action thriller, which is saved by the excellent cast. Lead actress Alexis Louder and the hilarious bad guy Toby Huss are especially impressive. The plot can go on, but eventually gets stuck in an endless series of surprising twists, which at some point seem very far-fetched. The last few minutes are really bland anyway. Until then, a typical rough Joe Carnahan film, full of tough men (and here also women) and blunt action scenes.

During a street brawl, Valerie Young [Alexia Louder] is punched in the face by Teddy Murretto [Frank Grillo], who then surrenders uncompromisingly and is taken to a cell in the police station. Not much later, Bob Viddick [Gerard Butler] also comes to arrest himself. The deliberate arrests are part of a perilous cat-and-mouse game between a criminal and a hit man that Valerie becomes entangled in. The plot is that of a B-movie but Carnahan gives a modern twist by reversing the traditional roles of the genre: the criminals are white, the cops are mainly black and the main character into a young black woman who knows her stuff. It typifies the culture change in Hollywood and gives it a refreshing impulse. The arrival of Gianni Calchetti as a rival assassin makes for a spectacular finale.

Tarantinoesque setback.
Where at the beginning you still have hope for an Assault on Precinct 13 or something similar with Copshop, you will soon be disappointed with a Tarantinoesque affair. A disappointing affair to be exact. Because despite the granite heads of Butler and Grillo, there is very little to enjoy. That's because of the predictability of the script as well as the chewed-up dialogues. Everything has been done better.
The humor is disappointing, the action is largely absent and actually the only surprise is Toby Huss as a singing psychopath. That idea has also been neglected for too long. Despite the fact that things finally get going towards the end, it's all too little to save the day. The final ending is even horribly bad. More often than not, the film doesn't work and takes way too long. Don't hesitate to miss Copshop.
