Smooth action film, not exactly believable in terms of plot but quite entertaining. Idris Elba is perfectly cast, although his role is little more than a stoic version of his character in Luther. Furthermore, the film is built up in terms of tension and the action scenes are above average good.

Finally a fun action movie with a decent story. Idris Elba is doing very well and Richard Madden is a bit of a doubt. I was never bored and that's just the purpose of an action movie. Definitely above average for this genre. I also think the music in the credits is pretty cool.

Very nice and solid action movie. Remarkably, this is from the director of Eden Lake and The Woman in Black. You would think that the man would come up with a horror production earlier.

From the outside, this looks like a stereotypical action movie of which a hundred have already been made. But still there are a few nice finds and the storyline is still quite nicely put together and thought out. A pickpocket in Paris who accidentally steals a bag containing a bomb and is himself suspected of the subsequent attack that left four dead. Yes, what now? Maybe he's lucky to get caught by Brair. A very fine role by Idis Elba.

Michael can use this one to track down a terrorist organization, and how? Well, by simply pickpocketing the suspects. Nice concept. This makes for an exciting trip through Paris with the necessary dry comedy buddy film moments and dialogues. Apparently this is also a protest film against the media, about manipulation and the fact that immigrants are often put in a bad light. While the riots in the Parisian suburbs sometimes disrupt the mission considerably.... or were useful for something?

The ending in the parliament building is an action-packed, yet surprising (well, and actually quite logical) starting point for this film. The demonstrations also looked very realistic. The ending was also very lighthearted.

And so Bastille Day has become a very enjoyable action thriller. Many beautiful (and run-down) pictures of Paris and a persistent rhythm. It's amazing that this isn't a Luc Besson production.

4.0*
