A Cowboy's Silver Lining plot

Billy is a hit man who desperately tries to come to terms with his traumatic past, only to find his job as a professional killer only further tangled up. His memories of "The Man With the Painted Face" who murdered his beloved and left him for dead are resurfacing more and more. His client, Charlie, notices that Billy is struggling with those memories and feels that it poses too high a risk for the work he does. He therefore decides to let Billy "retire". Billy manages to stay out of Charlie's hands alive with only his memories and a mysterious silver box.
