Taika Waititi has confirmed that he won't be involved in Thor 5 should Marvel bring Chris Hemsworth back for another instalment of the franchise.

The New Zealander has written and directed the last two movies in the series - Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Ragnarok received critical acclaim and was a smash at the box office, while the response to Love and Thunder was more lukewarm. There are constant rumours about a potential fifth Thor movie, but should it happen, they will need a new director.

"I know that I won't be involved…I'm going to concentrate on these other films that I've signed on for," he revealed to Business Insider.

"So that's six, seven years gone. I'd imagine another 'Thor' would be a lot sooner than that…But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris.

"I would never feel like they are cheating on me," Waititi joked.

"We're in an open relationship, and it's like if they want to see other people, I'm happy for that. I'd still get back into bed with them one day."

Waititi is currently promoting Next Goal Wins and will soon start serious development on a new Star Wars script.

Hemsworth was sick of Thor

Hemsworth previously admitted to being sick of playing Thor until the character went through a series of reinventions.

In Thor and Thor: The Dark World, and arguably The Avengers, Hemsworth played Thor relatively straight and serious - the hammer-wielding God of Thunder.

As the MCU progressed, we saw the actor's comedic chops impress through various different incarnations of the character. The Big Lebowski version of Thor comes to mind.

It is working with numerous different directors and writers over the course of his time in the MCU that has kept Hemsworth coming back for four stand-alone Thor movies as well as multiple other appearances.

“I love the experience , " he told GQ.

"I love the fact that I’ve been able to do something fairly different throughout the process. Thor 1 and 2 were their own thing, Thor 3 and 4 were a very different feel… and then even Avengers, the Lebowski Thor, the Infinity War Thor, due to different directors and I think mostly my own need to do something different.

"You know, I got sick of the character pretty quick every couple of years!"
