James Gunn will direct Superman: Legacy and he has provided some information which could hint at details of the plot.
With the original Superman featuring Christopher Reeve and Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill, we have seen two origin stories of Kal-El and how he became Superman / Clark Kent.
Following the restructuring of DC Comics at the creative and executive level, any plans for Cavill to return as Superman were scrapped despite his cameo appearance at the end of Black Adam.
Instead, a fresh take on the character is being produced by Gunn, who has confirmed that Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story, while a major influence is comic book series Superman for All Seasons.
"Just received this stunningly gorgeous Absolute edition of Superman for All Seasons, one of my favourite Superman stories & a huge influence on Legacy (& a strangely perfect bookend with All-Star Superman)," Gunn tweeted.
"The late, great Tim Sale’s artwork & Bjarne Hansen’s watercolour work have never looked better - nor have Clark & Ma & Pa. Jeph Loeb’s elegant, confident story still sings."
Things are moving ahead swiftly with Superman: Legacy as it was recently confirmed that Superman will be played by David Corenswet, while Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane.
Corenswet beat reported competition from Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney to land the part.
What is the plot of Superman: Legacy?
The synopsis reads:
'Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.'
