One of the latest names to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead, Beef and Nope fame.
Though not much is known about who he will play, he has joined the cast of Marvel's Thunderbolts.
In addition to Yeun, Thunderbolts will star Florence Pugh as Yelena, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
The movie is described as Marvel's answer to DC's Suicide Squad in that it features a group of anti-heroes rather than conventional heroes like Iron Man and Captain America.
Yeun was approached for a role by director Jake Schreier, whom he collaborated with on Beef.
"Jake Schreier, known for his work on Beef, was chosen to direct Thunderbolts, and when he offered me the role, I read it and found it to be a truly fascinating character worth exploring," the actor said on The Hollywood Reporter round table.
"For me, it's not about ticking items off a checklist anymore; it's about seeking a meaningful experience.
Yeun warned off Marvel
Yeun went on to reveal that he has been warned by some friends about taking on a role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“Sometimes I’ll have conversations with friends who are like, ‘Do you know what you’re doing?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, we’re making a movie.’ And they’re like, ‘Do you know what you’re doing?’ I try not to take that in because I think that’s the trap," he continued.
"The trap is to look at that thing in the context of how society might view that thing. In the immediate, I’m just making a movie. Putting it out is a whole other thing that I’m going to have to prepare for afterwards.”
Thunderbolts is set for release in July of 2024.
