South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have revealed that they were close to starting production on a new movie about deep faking before the coronavirus pandemic struck.

And, the subject of the deep fake was none other than the former president of the United States, Donald Trump.

Stone and Parker have run South Park for over 25 years but have also completed projects away from the show like Team America: World Police as well as the hugely successful musical, The Book of Mormon.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, the duo explained how they nearly started production on Deep Fake: The Movie.

"Not a lot of people know that we were a day away from starting production on the first feature movie we had done since Team America: World Police," Parker revealed.

"We were going to start shooting on the day that the pandemic shut everything down. It was months and months of getting ready for that movie, to just being like, 'Nope, it’s over.'

"We were working on a 'deep fake' movie. We have a deep fake company , and we have all these deep fake artists working for us. Even though the script was sort of timely, we ended up keeping the deep fake part of the studio going."

Stone elaborated:

"It was going to be 'Deep Fake: The Movie.' It was about this guy who looked exactly like Trump because we deep fake Trump’s face onto him.

"And it was this whole funny thing because, of course, it ends up with Trump just naked and getting run through the wringer and everything, and that’s why it was so funny and so timely."

The movie was set to star British comedian and actor Peter Serafinowicz, famed for providing the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

A talented impressionist, Serafinowicz would have provided the voice and body of the Trump lookalike with the deep fake added.
