Spider-Man: Brand New Day is yet to confirm the villain of the piece, but recent rumours suggest it will be Martin Li, also known as Mr. Negative.
Li is a villain from the Marvel comics but gained more mainstream exposure when he appeared as the villain in Marvel's Spider-Man video game.
He is the founder of a charity and shelter known as F.E.A.S.T. but secretly heads a criminal organisation known as the Inner Demons.
Li's alter ego can manipulate certain types of energy and has a striking appearance like a negative photograph, hence the name Mr. Negative.
Spider-Man 4 is currently filming scenes with a tank in Glasgow and eagle-eyed fans spotted the Inner Demons logo on the vehicle. That would suggest we are getting Li as the primary villain in the movie.
One of the most popular casting decisions for Marvel with regards to Li would be LOST star Daniel Dae Kim. Many fans have been fan-casting Kim to play Li and even created fan-art depicting him as the character.
ScreenRant recently asked Kim about the fan-casting:
ScreenRant: I don't know if you ever listened to any fancasts that happen on these websites, on these social accounts, but a lot of people want you to play Mr. Negative. Are you familiar with that at all?
Daniel Dae Kim: I heard something about that over the past six or seven months, and I saw that. I've seen that people want other Asian actors to play him as well, so I'm happy to be included in that conversation, but I haven't heard anything.
ScreenRant: The fan art looks phenomenal. Yourself transformed with the white hair and everything, it would be pretty cool.
Daniel: It's interesting. I'm always up for an interesting role and an interesting project.
Other casting rumours include Stephen OYoung, who voiced and provided the likeness for the character in the game, and Steven Yeun.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Sadie Sink in an unnamed role.
It is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
