Martin Scorsese on why he won't retire from filmmaking like Quentin Tarantino

Martin Scorsese has no plans to retire from filmmaking like his peer Quentin Tarantino, who is preparing to make his 10th movie.

Tarantino previously confirmed that his 10th movie would be his last and he has made nine so far (if you count Kill Bill as one movie). He has stated a desire to start writing more novels after retiring from writing screenplays and directing.

Scorsese is the opposite, really, as he is celebrating the release of Killers of the Flower Moon at the age of 80. The legendary director believes the difference between him and Tarantino is that the latter produces his own screenplays.

"He's a writer. It's a different thing," Scorsese told reporters.

"I come up with stories. I get attracted to stories through other people. All different means, different ways. And so I think it's a different process... I respect writers and I wish I could. I wish I could just be in a room and create these novels, not films, novels.

"I'm curious about everything still. That's one of the things. If I'm curious about something I think I'll find a way. If I hold out and hold up, I'll find a way to try to make something of it on film, but I have to be curious about the subject. My curiosity is still there."

What is Tarantino's final movie about?

Tarantino's last movie is titled The Movie Critic.

In March of 2023, it was announced that his final production would be focused on a movie critic living and working in the 1970s. He has subsequently said that the critic "used to write reviews for a porno rag."

Tarantino's leading man is yet to be announced, but there are already major rumours regarding the supporting cast.

It was previously reported that the director had reached out to Bruce Willis' family to see if the star would be healthy enough to make an appearance despite his tragic battle with dementia. Then, another Pulp Fiction actor was mentioned, as Tarantino wants to reunite with Vincent Vega himself, John Travolta.

He has opened his little black book again, as according to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, he has approached Kurt Russell to appear in The Movie Critic.
