There are three major new film releases in UK cinemas this week, and we have all the details for you.
2023 has been a huge year for cinema, with the summer period flourishing thanks to the releases of Barbie and Oppenheimer. The movies were released around the same time and many cinema-goers actually did the double-feature, which was affectionately named 'Barbenheimer'.
Barbie became the most successful movie ever directed by a solo female director, earning $1.43 billion at the box office, while Oppenheimer has made $936m. No pressure for the movies that follow then...
New Film Releases this week
As we approach 2024, several movies will be released before the end of the year, including three this week.
One of the most highly-anticipated movies of the years is Martin Scorsese's new historical epic, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Official premise:
'Members of the Osage tribe in northeastern Oklahoma are murdered under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, sparking a major BOI investigation directed by a 29-year-old J. Edgar Hoover and former Texas Ranger Tom White, described by Grann as "an old-style lawman."'
It is based on the non-fiction novel Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI written by David Grann.
Should you head to the cinema for this one, prepare for a long shift as it clocks in at a whopping three-and-half-hours.
Killers of the Flower Moon cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser, Jesse Plemons and John Lithgow.
There is already a bit of controversy surrounding Foe as the plot has a striking similarity to a recent Black Mirror episode. However, the novel in which the movie is based upon was actually released before the Black Mirror episode was produced. So, we'll have to see it for ourselves to find out if there is any hint of plagiarism or if it is a lovely coincidence.
Official premise:
'The lives of a married couple are turned upside down when a stranger arrives at their farm and informs the husband he will be sent to a large space station, and his wife will be left in the company of a robot.'
Foe cast: Saoirse Ronan, Paul Mescal and Aaron Pierre
The family-friendly option for this weekend is the latest entry in the Trolls franchise, Trolls Band Together.
Official premise:
'Poppy discovers that Branch and his four brothers were once part of her favourite boy band. When one of his siblings, Floyd, gets kidnapped by a pair of nefarious villains, Branch and Poppy embark on a harrowing and emotional journey to reunite the other brothers and rescue Floyd from a fate even worse than pop culture obscurity.'
