There are two major new film releases in UK cinemas this week, and we have all the details for you.
2023 has been a huge year for cinema, with the summer period flourishing thanks to the releases of Barbie and Oppenheimer. The movies were released around the same time and many cinema-goers actually did the double-feature, which was affectionately named 'Barbenheimer'.
Barbie became the most successful movie ever directed by a solo female director, earning $1.41 billion at the box office, while Oppenheimer has made $934m. No pressure for the movies that follow then...

Golda is a biographical movie focusing on the former president of Israel, Golda Meir.
The official premise reads:
'Faced with the potential of Israel's complete destruction, Prime Minister Golda Meir must navigate overwhelming odds, a skeptical cabinet and a complex relationship with U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger as millions of lives hang in the balance during the tense 19 days of the Yom Kippur War in 1973.'
Golda cast: Helen Mirren, Camille Cottin, Rami Heuberger, Emma Davies, Lior Ashkenazi, Dominic Mafham, Ed Stoppard, Ohad Knoller and Liev Schreiber.
Two biography movies for the price of one this week as The Great Escaper is based on the true story of Bernard Jordan, a WWII hero who in 2014 broke out of his nursing home to attend the 70th anniversary of the D-Day commemorations in France.
The official premise reads:
'In the summer of 2014, a World War II veteran (Michael Caine) sneaks out of his care home to attend the 70th anniversary commemoration of the D-Day landings in Normandy.'
The Great Escaper cast: Michael Caine, Glenda Jackson, John Standing, Danielle Vitalis, Will Fletcher, Laura Marcus and Wolf Kahler
This movie features the last performance of Glenda Jackson, who sadly passed away in June of 2023.
