The script for The Kill Room had to be rewritten in one day once Samuel L. Jackson became available.
The official premise for the movie reads:
'A hitman teams up with an art dealer for a money-laundering scheme that unwittingly turns him into an avant-garde sensation.'
It stars Jackson, Uma Thurman, Joe Manganiello, Maya Hawke, Debi Mazar and Dree Hemingway.
Jackson plays the role of Gordon Davis in The Kill Room, but it was previously written as a 72-year-old man named Herschel. It was only a call from Thurman that led to the role being completely changed, according to director Nicol Paone.
"That role is really interesting because it was written as Herschel, a 72-year-old Jewish man," Paone explained to Collider.
"And when we were discussing the casting, Uma texted me, 'Is Sam Jackson an option?' And I was like, 'Are you kidding? Of course.'
"And so Jonathan (Jacobson) and I had a day to rewrite the script before the Christmas break to get it to Sam."
Paone revealed that she had to spend part of her Christmas period finishing the script - at the expense of meeting her fiance's family!
"I was also meeting my fiancée's family that day over Christmas, and so I basically had to go in, say hello, and while they were off doing Christmassy things, I had to take over their bedroom and rewrite the script frantically for Samuel L. Jackson to give it to before the break," she added.
"It’s a great problem to have."
The Kill Room has received mixed-to-positive reviews so far.
