John Wick: Chapter 4 seemingly ended the arc of the title character.

After four movies of battling thousands of enemies, Wick apparently passed away, finally at peace.

But, due to the critical and commercial success of the franchise, with Chapter 4 emerging as the biggest box office hit of the series so far, there will be questions about whether Keanu Reeves could return as Wick at some point.

Director Chad Stahelski believes Reeves would probably don the suit again, but only if the script was daring enough.

“Yeah, Keanu and I have talked," he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

"Keanu, if you ask him right now, ‘Would you do John Wick 5?’ He’d be, ‘f**k yeah’. But then he’d look and go, ‘Well, what is it? I have no f--king idea.’

"That’s all. Believe me. It’s not like, ‘We’re going to figure it out today.’ Like, look man, we’re going to do our other stuff for a little bit, but if I was driving in the car or if I was walking the dog and an idea hit me, within 30 seconds I’d be on the phone to Keanu and we’d be riffing.”

John Wick was written for an older actor

The character of John Wick was initially written for a much older actor, according to a book detailing the production of the 2014 action epic.

Reeves eventually won the role and enjoyed a career renaissance as a result, going on to play the character in John Wick: Chapter 2, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, and John Wick: Chapter 4.

However, in the book They Shouldn't Have Killed His Dog: The Complete Uncensored Oral History of John Wick, Gun Fu, and the New Age of Action, by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman, it is explained that Clint Eastwood or Harrison Ford were initially envisioned as playing John Wick.

"One of my best friends is Charlie Ferraro at UTA, who sent me this script from Derek Kolstad called Scorn," producer Basil Iwanyk explains in the book.

"The lead was a seventy-five-year-old man, twenty-five years after being retired. It was the fun of watching Clint Eastwood kick ass. I thought, Okay, there's probably one or two names you could do this with: Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford. Other than that, I'm not sure how I put this movie together.

"But the tone of the script for John Wick was subversive and really fun. It has a very clear emotional through line and a great premise for an action movie."
