Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has confirmed that the third entry in the Deadpool franchise will retain the R-rated charm that made the first two movies so popular.
The first two films, starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool, are in the top 3 highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time and the original Deadpool is credited with proving that movies with this rating can indeed become monster hits.
Social media recently went crazy when Reynolds announced that Hugh Jackman would be making a shock return as Wolverine for Deadpool 3, and Levy's words suggest we are going to get some R-rated zingers between Logan and Wade Wilson.
“We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping Deadpool every day now," the director told Collider.
"It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul and the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a Deadpool movie.
"And it has Logan in it. And it has Wolverine in it. It’s too fun.”
Levy went on to confirm that the movie is still very much in the writing stage and that filming is probably a while away for now.
Some fans suggested that Deadpool could potentially become more family-friendly as the new movie will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Reynolds announces Jackman's return
Jackman has played Wolverine for over two decades, starting with X-Men and finishing with Logan, which was released in 2017.
The character's arc and ultimate death in Logan led many to speculate that his time playing the mutant was over. Jackman himself even expressed apprehension about returning.
But, his return was confirmed via a hilarious video posted to Reynolds' social media pages.
