Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige believes Dave Bautista has emerged as one of the best actors within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU has become so massive over the last 15 years that it has attracted a number of celebrated actors. There are a number of MCU stars who have won an Academy Award including Jeff Bridges, Sam Rockwell, Gwyneth Paltrow, Michael Douglas, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Connolly, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong'o, Daniel Kaluuya, Brie Larson, Angela Jolie, Rachel Weisz and many more...
Only one performer has been nominated for an Academy Award for a performance in a Marvel movie and that was Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for Best Supporting Actress.
Feige, one of the masterminds behind the MCU, clearly has some favourites, and Bautista, who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, most recently, is one of them.
"We watched the movie last night, and we were talking about moments that tear us up when he watches… I’m not going to give anything away, but he gives an expression in the movie," Feige previously told reporters and fans about Vol.3.
"I literally am like, not only is Drax one of the best characters in the MCU, written by James, but I think Dave Bautista has become one of the best actors that we’ve ever gotten to work with, and I just want to give that shout-out."
Outwith the MCU, the wrestler-turned-actor has carved out an impressive CV, appearing in movies like Blade Runner 2049, Spectre, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Dune.
Bautista done with Drax
Bautista has appeared in three Guardians movies and seven overall within the MCU.
After that, he has no intention to return, no matter how much money is on the table.
"This is my seventh film as Drax. And my third Guardians (movie)," Bautista said on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon
"It was like our trilogy. That's kind of what we all signed up for, to do a trilogy. And I think this will be the last version of our Guardians of the Galaxy.
"We all had those perfect character arcs and such a storybook ending. I constantly relate it to the way I ended my wrestling career. I ended it on a storybook note. I would never go back and tarnish that. And it's the same with this.
"With Drax, I just got to end the perfect way. And I would never sign up for another job as Drax just to get a paycheque. I would tarnish that (perfect ending), and I won't do it."
