Thirty years later, Keaton would reprise his role as Batman in The Flash, playing an older version of the character, while he, DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger reunited for a Batman skit at the Academy Awards.
When asked by ScreenRant if he would return as Penguin one more time, DeVito replied:
"If Tim Burton was directing it, I’d be there in a second. Oswald Cobblepot is my favourite. I had a good time. It's operatic. I like every once in a while going big, and so I’d do that in a second. We had a ball doing that."
DeVito previously told SFX Magazine that he would embrace another outing as Oswald, while praising Burton as a filmmaker.
"I would definitely consider doing it, yeah. Batman Returns was a great part, it was operatic. You could just pull out all the stops.
"There were so many motivating things, so many things churning up inside of him. Being the odd man out – the odd bird out – brought the character out of me. It was an emotional experience for me because I felt it was an opportunity of a lifetime to play Oswald Cobblepot with Tim’s vision and design. Tim is a genius to me."
Schwarzenneger, DeVito and Keaton reuinite
"Well Arnold and I are presenting tonight, together, for a very obvious reason," DeVito began at the Oscars.
"We both tried to kill Batman," Schwarzenneger interjected.
"I was the Penguin in Batman Returns," DeVito continued before Schwarzenegger added: "And I was Mr. Freeze in Batman and Robin".
The pals then discussed how Batman defeated them. He used love against Mr. Freeze, while he dropped Penguin out of a window.
Schwarzenegger joked that Batman was a "son of a bitch" before DeVito pointed out a stone-faced Keaton in the audience, who beckoned the pair to come and get him.
We absolutely need a movie with these three involved!
