Brian Cox says he hasn't watched the final episode of Succession, which aired at the end of May.
The Scottish actor played Logan Roy to huge critical acclaim for four seasons following the premiere in June of 2018.
He has won the Golden Globe Award for Outstanding Leading Actor in a Drama Series for his work. The character of Logan is the brash, ruthless owner and leader of a media juggernaut who is more concerned with the future of his business than his relationship with his family.
In what proved to be the biggest shock of the entire series, Logan passed away in episode three of the fourth season. Thereafter, Succession focused on the Roy children - Shiv, Kendall and Roman - and their respective attempts to become CEO of Waystar Royco.
In the end, none of them succeeded and the company was sold to Gojo, led by Lukas Matsson.
It was an acclaimed final season with an acclaimed final episode, but Cox hasn't taken it in just yet.
“I’ve never liked watching myself, for a start,” Cox told the BBC.
“Because of what happened to Logan, I’ve been disinclined to watch.
“I knew how it was going to end, because I knew that Logan would have already set it up. So I gather, in the end, Logan’s ultimately won through — even though he’s in the grave.
“It’s a strange situation. I don’t cling on to things. When it’s over, it’s over, and I go on.”
Cox: Logan Roy would hate me
Cox believes the main difference between himself and Roy is that the latter is a pessimist, while he himself is an optimist, but that both have a "deep disappointment in the human experience."
“I think things would get better and he doesn’t so Logan would hate me,” he previously said at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
“He would say ‘I wish that Brian Cox would just shut the f*ck up’.”
Cox says he does "respect" Roy as a character, however.
“Unlike Trump or Murdoch he’s self made,” he continued.
“He did it all himself. He’s a misanthrope, is kind of unhappy and his curse is he loves his children. I’ve grown to have enormous respect for him even though he is the antithesis of who I am.”
The episode in which Logan passed away, titled 'Connor's Wedding', has been lauded as one of the greatest episodes in television history.
