The actor has featured in movies since a child and had numerous roles under his belt before playing Kick-Ass, but it was that role as the masked teen vigilante that really put him on the map.
Kick-Ass told the story of Dave Lizewski, a high school nerd who decides to become a superhero. It spawned a sequel which was released in 2013.
Both movies were critical and commercial successes.
In 2015, Taylor-Johnson entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he was cast as Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Kick-Ass and Quicksilver are generally considered to be heroic characters, but Taylor-Johnson will be able to test his acting chops a little bit more when playing another comic book character in Kraven the Hunter.
The movie comes at a time when the term 'superhero fatigue' has been coined due to the sheer amount of comic book projects that have been made in film and TV over the past 15 years.
But, Taylor-Johnson promises Kraven the Hunter will provide something different, especially considering it has an R-rating in the United States.
“I think there was something unique about this character, and something grounded," he told Rolling Stone.
"We’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture… where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema. I wouldn’t have signed onto it if I felt there wasn’t something to really bring to life with this character."
The official synopsis reads:
'Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff sets out on a mission to prove himself as the greatest hunter in the world.'
Within the Marvel comic books, Kraven is a big-game hunter who sets his sights on Spider-Man, whom he describes as "the most dangerous game".
