"To find the truth they must lose themselves."

Catherine (Kidman) and Matt Parker try to adjust to their new life in the remote Australian desert town of Nathgari. They are a nice family but very self-reliant. On the eve of a massive sandstorm, their two children, Lily and Tom, disappear into the desert. When the town is enveloped by red sand and darkness, the locals help to find the children. The search is led by local police officer David Rae (Hugo Weaving). They are afraid that something may have happened to the children.

Mediocre film about a family that has just moved and whose children subsequently go missing. The film starts well and the story and the characters are captivating and it seems to be heading for an exciting denouement (however, it is rather disappointing). Fine acting and reasonably atmospheric, but not enough for 3.0 stars. The film is too long-winded for that.

Quite a boring film. The beginning is still somewhat, but then the film collapses like a pudding.

There is also a lack of acting here and there.

I watched it all the way through, because I was really curious about the ending.

No denouement! I might have given this one an extra half star if it had finished at the normal feature length.

The only plus in this film. The beautiful surroundings, but this is for me a film to forget very quickly.

Nicole Kidman marathon 38#

Atmospheric, beautiful images, good acting, but unsatisfying.

The film relies mainly on the atmosphere. The location, the landscape, the residents and the town largely make the film. Kidman acts great again, for example the scene in the desert towards the end touches you. The story is not very complicated or deep, it ultimately goes nowhere (since the film is suddenly over), but it focuses more on the drama and the emotions of the parents. Nice, but I would have liked to see more of a concludingending.
