Nice atmosphere, and a nice collection of 1980s metropolitan events: straight edge, veganism, squatters, yuppies, Aids... It hits pretty hard, and that's just the background. The love triangle in which a teen pregnancy is central does not make this film much happier. The ending may have an uplifting tone, but overall the film is very nihilistic.
Nevertheless, it is worth watching, because of the sympathetic characters, and because of the escapism that is displayed, very recognizable for many young people.

“Will you remember me as the most fucked up girl you ever knew?”

Nice coming of age film with a tragicomic touch. The humorous part is mainly in the mutual family ties, the terrible parents, and the 80s atmosphere that is very well represented. The tragedy is of course in Teddy's death, and how his best friend Jude deals with this. I thought Hawke and Steinfeld were on their best and the music is nice too, but it doesn't really want to stick. . In the end it is all too casual for that, and the ending a bit too feel good.

Based on a book by Eleanor Henderson. The title of the film is a Biblical reference to Jude 1:14. Hailee Steinfeld and Asa Butterfield previously starred in Ender's Game. Butterfield previously worked with Emily Mortimer.

The film gives a picture of New York in the 1980s, with a touch of glamour. It contains a reasonable story, and the cast is also entertaining. Not a high flyer, but worth a look.

2.5 *
