On an ordinary night in Hong Kong, a group of passengers climb aboard a minibus that takes them from Mongkok to Tai Po. The group is as diverse as the city: there is a young man on drugs, an arguing couple, a woman with prayer beads and a girl who has just fallen in love. Behind the wheel is the chatty driver. But when the bus pulls out of a tunnel, everything falls silent: the streets and buildings are all empty and there is no soul anywhere, as if everyone has suddenly been swallowed up by the earth. The group takes refuge in an abandoned cafe to discuss what to do next. That's when they make a horrifying discovery.
