This second part takes a while to get going, but halfway through when the women come on board it becomes a lot more fun, especially the captain doesn't like female company and his interactions with the ladies, which of course cause quite a stir, are funny.
Muriel Pavlov has been replaced this time by Brigitte Bardot, of course a lot more fun to watch as eye candy, but her romance with the doctor is not very believable.

BB #10
Doctor at Sea – the tenth film by Bardot, and the 2nd film (of 7) in the Doctor series, based on the 2nd in the series of 19 books. I read Part 1 once, that was enough, and never before did I see a reason to watch a film of it.
But it is not a punishment; the corny fun I expected is there, but on the other hand, it is not that bad, especially when you compare it to the crude Dutch comedies of the same level of ambition—those are a whole lot cruder. Just about the worst thing this film has to offer is Bardot's somewhat overly bland and exaggerated accent.
For BB, this is perhaps her first real role involving real acting. She does it quite well, too; she is on par with Bogarde, for example. It is nice to see this confirmed by Variety as well: "Bardot, a looker from Paris, has an acting talent to match her charm. She's a positive asset to the production." To say that the romance isn't very convincing is a bit too easy in hindsight; I wonder if that was said at the time. From the quotes I can find right now, it certainly doesn't appear that way, and the moment at the end leaves no doubt in my opinion that those two either like each other very, very much, or perhaps that they are very, very good actors.
Perhaps more interesting is how James Robertson Justice, the Captain, steals all the attention and dominates every scene he stars in. Not unusual for a captain, of course, but remarkable that he appeared in all 7 Doctor films, and in a huge number of other films as well—such as The Guns of Navarone (1961). He is the kind of actor who never gets beyond supporting roles, but when you see his performance here, you really wonder why.
