Fack Ju Göhte plot

Zeki Mueller has been incarcerated for 13 months, just enough time for Goethe High to build a gym on the site where Zeki's friend, Charlie, buried his loot. Zeki is offered a job as a substitute teacher by the principal. He falls short of a teacher after one of them was so badly mistreated by the students that she decided to jump out the window, yelling, "They're all monsters!" To gain permanent access to the school's basement - from where he hopes to dig a tunnel to his loot - Zeki takes the job.

Chaotic collection of nonsense with a handful of strong moments, a thin romantic story and many unnecessary banalities. Keeps somewhere between the Van Wilder films and Stand and Deliver. Elyas M'Barek does a good job as protagonist, but I prefer to see Karoline Herfurth in more serious films.

Not bad. Not great. A bit like it is with every comedy lately. The fact that it is a German film does not bother me either. By the way, it is one of the better German films in years. If you look inside the shops, they only sell German war films. That should stop. Oh, that rotten cliché. Maybe not THE Comedy film of recent years. But in that area I have been hungry for years. Robin Williams was just about the last actor who knew how to make people laugh. Since the latter is no longer around, I fear that we cannot expect much in the coming years.

Fack Ju Göhte is a film that is drenched in overwrought colours and offers images that were shot by a restlessly moving hand camera. The film does not seem to be aimed at the sedate film audience. After a while in the film, this is also apparent from the superficial filling of the characters, the flat story and the adolescent humour.

The characters are terrible clichés. The main character first. A man who only thinks of himself, uses street language and of course still has his heart in the right place. The story progresses as you think it will. The main character is accidentally appointed as a teacher at a secondary school. He is not interested in the children. After much joy, sorrow and bad humor he discovers that the school and the children do not leave him cold after all. Surprise.

In between, a weak love plot whose outcome is already determined after a few minutes, but which, like the rest of the misery, drags on for two hours. Of course, the class of unwilling students that changes into a class full of ambitious hard workers is not missing and religious people suddenly appear to be very lenient and cool.

Perhaps it is very brave to have the characters use fecal language and to treat genitals and sexual acts in a derogatory way. It is not funny. No, Fack Ju Göthe is not a film that derives its humor from fine, sharp dialogues or cynical observations about the sorry state of the current school system. Instead, an annoying protagonist in a flat and clichéd story that is painfully unfunny. This is bad.
