The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne plot

Poor and single African-American mother Doris Payne turns out to be a notorious jewel thief in the segregated America of the 1950s. The now 83-year-old lady has no regrets at all about the jewelry she has stolen over the past 60 years, from Monte Carlo to Japan, just as she has never regretted the first carat she stole. With Doris on trial for a ring she stole, it slowly becomes clear what her methods are, and why she became a jewel thief. The question is whether she will be able to escape prison this time.
