Abacus: Small Enough to Jail plot
A family epic and the little man's fight against the mighty government; the history of the bank Abacus in New York's Chinatown tells several stories. The documentary follows the banking family Sung, who has been charged by the US government for fraud during the economic crisis. None of the major US banks had to answer to court for providing 'junk mortgages'; they got away with settlements of billions of dollars. However, the small bank for Chinese migrants finds itself in a protracted legal battle. For years, the family struggles to prove its innocence. We follow the struggles of father and mother Sung, the founders of the bank, and their two daughters who took over the company from their parents. A third daughter is a doctor and number four works as a prosecutor, but quits her job when the family business becomes a suspect.
