Movement.

Another one from the series that is already quite big at the moment. I could fortunately follow this well and it was clear to me that the stories do not really continue. But to know that well I have to see them first of course.

The story is actually not very interesting and is even bitterly unbelievable at times. The characters themselves are written out rather standardly and then it is mainly the dance competitions that do it for him, because they are very interesting.

For the rest this is a pretty standard dance movie that is mainly aimed at a teenage audience. Children will not find this that much to their liking, if you are around 16 maybe. Or if you like dancing of course.

More of the same, which is nice for the fans of course. Although it does start slowly. And Sean has no charisma at all. The film relies mainly on the 'best of' premise. But then not the best dances. And also none from the first film...

But the dancing is okay and the finale makes up for a lot as usual. Quite a nice film, although it is nowhere really special.

The Mob has spent the money from the Nike deal they got at the end of Step Up 4 on a futile attempt to break through in Los Angeles. The crew decides to return to Miami, but Sean [Ryan Guzman] calls on Moose [Adam Sevani] to help form a new crew, LMNTRIX. The chance for a big break comes in the form of “The Vortex”, a dance competition with a three-year residency in Las Vegas as the main prize. Ironically, Sean has to compete against his old crew there. The basic story is old hat, but the screenplay by Duane Adler and John Swetnam scores by paying attention to the daily reality for ambitious dancers (most of whom are financially dependent on a poorly paid job) and to the joy of dancing for young and old. The standard plot is a nice excuse for the return of old favorites like Jenny Kido [Mari Koda], Vladd [Chadd Smith] and the cheesy Santiago Brothers [Facundo and Martin Lombard]. The dance scenes are a mix of visual spectacle, impressive moves (long live Adam Sevani!) and (crucially) a nice dose of relativizing humor.
