Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1998 for being gay. He was 21 years old. The tragedy caused a wave of outrage in America: people were scared, angry and shocked. Gay rights advocates and opponents spoke out as the thrill-seeking press focused on the grief of Matthew's family. Matthew's family and the gay community could only hope that his death would finally wake up policymakers. Fifteen years after the murder, Michele Josue is making this film about her boyfriend 'Matt' so that the world will know him as it knew him, and not forget him.
