Growls, but doesn't bite. A run-of-the-mill home invasion that never really tries to be anything more than many of its predecessors. What remains is a fairly tightly shot and atmospheric interlude with a decent cast (Katharine Isabelle continues to play a decent role in the genre), but it never truly delivers. Mostly off-screen... A shame!

Torment is a mediocre film that unfortunately doesn't have enough quality to rank among the decent "home invasion" films. It lacks overall atmosphere, scares, and an interesting story. The story is even confusing, as a family is attacked by uninvited guests for no apparent reason. Of course, a film doesn't always need a specific reason, but in this case, for a mediocre film, that would certainly have been a plus. Torment is almost uninteresting. The acting is fine and solid from start to finish, but unfortunately, it doesn't lift the film out of the mire. Torment is yet another "home invasion" film, and there are far better ones.

Torment fails to deliver anything new. It's an uninspired film that does generate some interest at times. It does manage to offer something interesting: the invaders' masks. In almost every "home invasion" film, the invaders wear masks. Torment did something original with them. But that's about it. I recommend skipping this one. It's a weak film.

Not bad at all, but certainly not surprising. The film certainly has its moments, the atmosphere is effective, and the cast does a fine job, though it sometimes remains a bit flat. The plot is predictable and the film isn't always captivating, but for a home-invasion horror film, it's quite entertaining on a Sunday night.
