Alléluia plot

"Fervidly dark lovesick horror inspired by the real-life criminal duo, the Lonely Hearts Killers."

Michel knows exactly what women want to hear and how to satisfy them. He uses this to get their money. He has a date with Gloria: a divorced woman who lives with her daughter in a modest apartment and is dating for the first time. Gloria is also completely blown away by Michel and entrusts him with her savings after an intimate night. However, Michel gives her the wrong phone number. Gloria follows him to a club where she watches him take over another woman. When Michel has a severe migraine attack, she takes him to his house.

Alleluia is a pitch-black love parable that more than once ends in a gloomy nightmare. With Manu Dacosse (among others, Amer, Strange Color of Your Body's Tears) behind the camera, Debie was quickly forgotten. Visually consistently very beautiful and occasionally - in combination with the pumping music - even very impressive. There is actually a scene that came close in effect to the black and white inversion scene from La Vie Nouvelle. In terms of atmosphere, there are clearly similarities with Grandrieux's work. Yet Du Welz once again provides his film with sufficient individuality by adding his well-known - albeit pitch-black - humor. The performances of the two main characters and the children in the film also certainly deserve a mention.

Please note, this film will certainly not be to everyone's taste. The plot is quite repetitive and the characters' actions are not always logical. Insanity seems to predominate and then the boundaries of the normal world are of course somewhat exceeded. This was also painfully clear from some people in the room who were constantly laughing at the wrong times. Apparently I ended up at the wrong movie and didn't really know how to react to the harder and especially stranger scenes.

Don't worry, Seam. This is certainly not Du Welz's crowd pleaser, perhaps even his most inaccessible and experimental film to date. Best cinema experience (and even movie experience) in a long time. Black, strange and crazy (strong)!

Fabrice du Welz & Laurent Lucas, the royal couple in psychological horror. A film about a filthy sick couple with a rather striking lifestyle, in which Lola Dueñas also plays a great role. And du Welz knows how to portray this fantastically, one of the best of its kind as far as I'm concerned.

Atmospheric and sometimes absurdist film by director Fabrice du Welz, who is clearly the most at home within this type of story. Alléluia has a nice fast pace, a lot of eye for detail and excellent acting from the two adult protagonists. The constant unpredictability keeps the viewer guessing at all times as to the outcome and fortunately it does not disappoint. It is a pity that the film does not really evoke a feeling or emotion in the viewer, so it ultimately does not go much further than well-shot entertainment. It doesn't want to be really exciting or gruesome, but Du Welz always knows where to create atmosphere and puts maximum effort into it. In any case, I was glued to the TV for the full 95 minutes.
