Keanu Reeves' directorial debut, which doesn't turn out very well. The film does not manage to build any tension and is quite toneless in nature. The decors are quite nice, but visually they don't really come across. The beginning of the fights without an audience are quite nice, but after that there is little left. Story-wise, the whole way Chen breaks with his temple and master, invests his wrong money, and reconciles is as illogical as can be. Furthermore, Reeves participates in the film and his character is quite stiff and boring. During "his" fight he also comes across as a director and you can see that in his fighting skills. The choreography is literally and figuratively Matrix and that somewhat masks Reeves' ignorance in this area. My advice to Reeves is to really focus on an aspect of the film instead of claiming a role yourself. It certainly doesn't help at all.

Disappointing directorial debut from Reeves, had expected more. A standard martial arts story, luckily for the most part the original language is used, that's a plus, the other plus is the beautifully portrayed fights, except for the one with Reeves, he doesn't have to worry about that. But confused story, weak acting and mediocre sets mean that I will not watch this film again, only because of the fights another 2.5

Pretty unlikely to happen.

Choreography is decent but not outstanding, and that's what the film should be about. Because for the rest you get overacting supporting roles, an uninspired plot and mediocre SFX.

And no, the time when Reeves himself was an addition to the film world has been a while. Unfortunately. *2.0
