The meteoric rise of British tenor Paul Potts on Britain's Got Talent stunned audiences worldwide in 2007. Paul is one of four children of a bus driver and supermarket cashier. He listens to his parents' opera records and discovers his vocal talent by singing in local choirs. He was severely bullied, which had a devastating effect on his self-confidence and was only relieved by his love of singing. When he meets Julz via the internet, they fall hopelessly in love. He seems to have everything a man could wish for, yet something is still missing. This is the story of an ordinary man who turns into a media sensation.

What a wonderful moving movie! I really didn't expect this.
I had seen Paul Potts' audition on youtube and of course thought it was very nice, but I never delved into him as a person. This film does this of course, what a wonderful person he is and how far he has come. The film is mainly about the period before he is famous, I think this is a bit of a shame, I would have liked to see a bit more about his life now. Anyway, the actors play convincingly and the film has romance, comedy and drama, but all in all a real feel good film. I'm not really a fan of opera but I don't have to be, this movie is more than just music, a real story about a real person, beautiful!!!

An easy film that has such a high feel-good content that it is impossible to hate it. I do find it strange that the film is called One Chance while Potts gets several chances to prove himself in the film (and sometimes succeeds, sometimes fails).
I found James Corden to be particularly deserving as an actor. So he can present, sing and act. The funny thing is that I never really thought he looked like Potts, but more like Cameron Tucker from Modern Family.
The most special (unintentional) merit of the film is that you see that Potts really did not just fall from the sky. Even ugly duckling Susan Boyle wasn't just plucked off the street. I was very surprised when it turned out that Potts had already sung for Pavarotti (!).
But for the effect it is of course more fun if we think that the participant is a total nobody. For example, in America's Got Talentthe Dutch career of Glennis Grace was also ignored. It's all so fake...
But this was good fun.
A pretentious biopic would stop the moment Potts enters the Britain's Got Talent stage, but this film gives you that nice feel-good orgasm after an hour and a half and mixes very nice authentic images with new recordings by James Corden.

One Chance is an extremely successful film in terms of biography. Without having to realize that this is all based on truth, as a viewer you simply get a wonderful film. In my opinion, these are the best films based on true events.
