"Crime has a new enemy."

The year is 2029. The OmniCorp company is at the heart of robotics technologies. Their robots are winning wars all over the world for the United States and now the company wants to use the technology domestically as well. When Alex Murphy, a father and police officer, is shot in Detroit, he proves to be the perfect guinea pig for OmniCorp. Murphy is made half-human, half-robot, and is soon able to walk the streets of the city again. There he has to face challenges that he had never experienced before as an 'ordinary' man.

Fortunately this was not a remake of the strong original from 1987 and a new story has been made of it, but unfortunately this is a very poor RoboCop film because both the weak story and the execution (long-winded and boring) are very poor.

The opening was quite nice (especially the visual aspect of it and the action), but as soon as the asshole protagonist (Joel Kinnaman) who is going to play RoboCop comes into the picture, the story goes downhill quickly and it hardly knows how to play. to fascinate. Visually it all looks quite nice and the same goes for the action present (sometimes just like a computer game). The cast is also quite impressive with Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Samuel L. Jackson, among others, but unfortunately they don't know anywhere to convince. Only Abbie Cornish could still charm me a little, but that was only because of her looks.

All in all, this is just a very mediocre RoboCop film adaptation that is hardly worth watching and actually lasts too long.

PS it's nice that the song "Hocus Pocus" of the 70s Dutch band "Focus" has been used during the training of RoboCop .

Everything that makes the original so good is not present here or does not come out at all. The raw is completely gone and the other approach is not a good idea. Here Robocop is a human with machine traits, the original Robocop is a machine with human traits; 100 times more interesting. The action is way too slick and the characters, including the villain, totally uninteresting.

They should have left out the 'social criticism' altogether.

The main thing that pulls this remake up is the cast. Excellent performances where Gary Oldman stands out. But Joel Kinnaman also delivers a very good performance. Also nice to see Omar from the Wire and Keaton is always fine.

The action is mediocre, rather fleeting and rushed than really enjoyable. Visually, the film is not special either, we do not get to see the striking image of the futuristic car city of Detroit as in the earlier films or their beautiful designs. Of course special effects have gotten better but there is less love in it. Four ED-209's can't change that either. Despite a raised Samuel Jackson in a sensational program on TV, there is hardly any satire in it.

The gruesome shooting in the original does not happen, but it is quite shocking to see Robocop without its armored parts. We also see a somewhat larger role for his wife here. Yet she gets too little to do in the end, there could have been more in it. Furthermore, Robo now drives a motorcycle and not a car. OK, nice, but there are no really big stunts.

The ending is very weak and unsatisfactory. There is no real confrontation, the corrupt are not punished. I thought the film itself was quite reasonable, but that ending is really bad and brings the whole further below the original. Remakes can't get more superfluous than this.
