Good film about a boy who gets a job with an ex-con in the woods of Texas. Well-crafted and captivating characters from the white-trash environment. Raw, and certainly not cheerful in tone. Excellent acting from the entire cast, it is a relief to see Nicolas Cage again in a role where he can sink his teeth.

Film in which Joe (Nicolas Cage) - despite a sad soul himself - still carries with him a portion of macho behavior and heroism, even in the most hopeless landscape. The best man sometimes skins a deer in someone's living room, but also occasionally throws his dog into the arena with a fellow of his own kind in order to be orally satisfied for about twenty seconds by the prostitute of the house and then casually throwing a few dollars on the furniture. throw. Long live Texas.
However, the frustrated tree killer tries to feel better about himself by standing up for a hardworking farm boy who comes from a difficult family to say the least. The antagonists, the farmboy's alcoholic/violent father and some other dangerous weirdo who pollutes the streets (a ridiculously flat character) will Joe take care of too, right?
A little more refinement please.

In England you have two masters of social drama. Ken Loach and Mike Leigh. Specialists when it comes to films that are set at the bottom of society. And almost all of them are very beautiful and subtle. This film also takes place at the bottom of society. And has a similar story to the films of the above directors. But this movie is American style. And so it all gets a lot rougher here and has been subtly replaced here by the blunt axe. There are some pretty nice scenes though. The English easily get 4 stars from me with such a film. With this American way of filming I don't get more than 2.5 stars. Although he was still on three until just before the end. Too bad. But it will be a matter of taste.
