Watching this movie on Netflix now. Didn't know him but appears to have been released in the same year as Olympus Has Fallen. I thought this was an entertaining film and you automatically compare White House Down with it. And that comparison is negative for WHD. Terrible nonsense and less appealing characters. Nice action but Olympus Has Fallen is slightly better in that regard.

Typical Emmerich movie. I had expected that this film would be of a slightly smaller scale in terms of design, but of course it has to be dragged in that half the world threatens to go to it and literally everything explodes left and right. I think the very comparable Olympus Has Fallen is a lot better and more fun. Most actors also don't really know how to stand out above the average. I find Channing Tatum to be very charismatic anyway, but Jamie Foxx or a Maggie Gyllenhaal don't know how to perform here either. Then the bad guy actors are the best, like Clarke and especially Jimmy Simpson. American patriotism is also very disturbing, but to be expected. But good, for the rest it is an entertaining film that, except for a slightly too slow start, has a lot of speed and contains over the top action. Nothing special, and not good either, but entertaining, so that counts for something. 2.5*.
