This is not a bad movie, but I expected a bit more from it (it wasn't really gripping). Perhaps also because the film is very old.

The opening scenes with the Germans patronizing their British prisoners, followed by these command-shouting officers on the ship's deck, did not appeal to me, let alone sympathize with what happened. It lacked heart and sometimes seemed clumsily filmed.

What takes place in Montevideo was a lot more fascinating, also led to tension and made up for a lot.

Pleasantly surprised with the excellent image quality

Remarkable what beautiful shots Powell and Pressburger conjure up again, with optimal use of Technicolor. There are few directors who could imitate them.

This time, however, the storyline is a bit stiff, despite the historically interesting and accurate theme. The fact that studio work is occasionally used too visibly during the fights does not really help either. What is striking is the continuous gentlemanly respect between the Germans and the Allies.
