British/Lithuanian crime comedy that certainly has some nice moments but in its entirety is too bland, exaggerated and bizarre to really convince. Redirected mainly has the Lithuanian locations that work reasonably refreshing. quite mediocre ; the acting, the action, the humor and the camera work, it doesn't amount to much.

A kind of Guy Ritchie meets Emir Kusturica but quite a few levels lower.

How nice!

Indeed a bit of Guy Ritchie meets Kusturica. The typical British humor combined with the pitch-black Eastern Bloc humor works more than well.

The whole plot is of course pretty standard again and in the end the director clearly had more interest in the culture shock. Four British idiot gangsters (well 3 gangsters and 1 rookie) think they can leave gray England behind and spend their loot in an exotic Malaysia... However, due to ash clouds from a volcanic eruption in Iceland, the plane has to make an emergency landing in Lithuania. Ben the rookie, after regaining consciousness, thinks he can take a dip on one of the exotic beaches, but notices that he has ended up in some place. What now?

The four friends break up and each experiences his crazy adventures. Literally crazy. It seems as if the director doesn't take it too seriously with the Lithuanian people, because he portrays them here almost as pacifist idiots. From whore-walking businessmen to petty thieves to homophobic gypsies to prostitution... And yes... Their rivals from England also drop by. With Vinnie Jones as the front man... His Bullet Tooth character is still tattooed on his arm.

Unforgettable were those scenes that Lithuanian wedding, with that mass shooting and fight, that hangover part, those Africans in that truck who think they are in England, those tattoos, that pub fight, that whole radiator thing.... plus countless more crazy, brutal and absurd moments. In short: Delicious!

Too bad the two parts of Zero are nowhere to be found.

4.5*

Not really special.

For a film that must have borrowed a few things from Ritchie, I thought Redirected was a poor substitute, especially since Ritchie's films are so much more stylish than this. It does have a certain English charm about it, and that's where the fairly daring form of humor comes into play.

The acting is probably the best element of the film. The actors all play passionate, humorous and enthusiastic roles. Jones soon plays a character that you will not soon forget. The other gentlemen also play nice and the fairly disturbed background figures should also form food for some nice scenes.

Unfortunately, Redirected doesn't have too much to offer. It's just not very stylish actually, and not exactly exciting either. The camera work is lagging behind, but the editing or editing is also not fresh enough to keep a film like this standing. The gentlemen regularly encounter disturbed situations, but the film does not let it happen for a moment that these are really disturbed and that the characters are also in danger.

Other than that, I just miss the boldness of the film. The violence is rather tame while the film seems to find itself very rough by acting vulgarly. It just lacks that hardness and surprise, because despite the many events the film remains too clear. You reach the end point too early, and with these kinds of films, quirkiness can give that push to satisfaction.

The finale is still nice, but I just miss the brutality and added value of the directing in this film. Redirected could have been a very nice film, has a high tempo and strong acting, but remains too much behind cinematographically and substantively to be a really nice film. Nice to see Jones again, he always chooses the right roles.
