"We've all been there."

Teenager Duncan (Liam James) takes his mother, his demanding stepfather and his daughter to a beachfront cottage to spend the summer. Everyone is soon enjoying themselves, only Duncan is terribly bored and does not fit at all between the teenage girls and the often tipsy adults. Then he suddenly finds himself at a large water theme park, where he meets the eloquent manager Owen (Sam Rockwell), with whom he develops a special friendship during the summer holidays.

I hadn't heard of this movie yet (despite the well-known cast), but I thought it was a good movie. A nice story and a nice mix of humor and drama.

The cast was also very well chosen and convincing.

The playing time was good, not too long and not too short.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie.

For a long time I really thought I was watching a rare bad and cringe-inducing movie. All the adult characters are so insufferable that it's completely unbelievable. I initially also attribute the character of Rockwell to that. Clichés pile up as do the number of scenes and situations that should make it tangible how bad Duncan feels. As if it takes so much to make a teenager who is on summer vacation with his mother and her boyfriend feel bad. However, when Duncan starts on the bloom the movie becomes a pleasant experience. Owen really turns out to be a golden guy and Trent is somewhat put in his place. Therefore a very tight sufficient. Commendable in itself that the second half of the film is better than the first; it's usually the other way around.
