It's a good thing they got rid of the handycam part, because that makes it easier to select the film.

Furthermore, a horror film from the book. Atmospheric, a number of jump scares and Bell is also quite funny in the leading role. Furthermore, little risk is taken and everything is neatly filled in within the lines.

Just a textbook horror movie without any standouts. So don't expect a really bad horror movie, but also not a memorable horror movie.

2.5*

Meanders along a bit. Nice that the thread is simply picked up, this time in a more classical film form. Good choice in any case, seems to me the only way to take yourself seriously and not opt for laziness. The first part, despite the fact that we have been completely worn down by films with exorcisms in recent years, effectively managed to increase its tension. That is less the case here. Still a solid performance by Ashley Bell, but it constantly balances on the border between ''we know it by now'' and ''oh, still quite tightly executed''. I'll leave it in the middle..

Nell [Ashley Bell], the girl who was tormented by the demon Abalam in The Last Exorcism, shows bizarre behavior again a few years later. She ends up in a shelter for young people where she shares a room with Gwen [Julia Garner]. No one believes that she is being attacked by a demon or that Nell's visions of her deceased father [Louis Herthum] should be taken seriously until it is almost too late and a new exorcism is set up. There is no story, only a repetition of tension building, ending in a jump scare in the form of a sudden apparition or a sound effect. Gass-Donnelly regularly manages to create an ominous atmosphere thanks to Bell's strong performance, but the script cheats you a few too many times.
