Remarkably low-budget film that starts off very weak but later develops into very enjoyable entertainment.

The first 10 minutes or so you are treated to the most moronic kills in film history. Several times you see a person enter a closet from which all sorts of strange noises come and where the entire wardrobe suddenly flies through the room. What happens in the closet and who causes it (the monster) is not shown.

Fortunately, after half an hour the monster finally makes its full-screen entrance. The thing looks deliciously cheesy, fake but at the same time very cool. Unfortunately, the kills it provides remain very boring and there is absolutely no gore. It makes it all the more impressive that Monster in the Closet remains so entertaining without showing a single drop of blood.

In itself it says enough that a guy in a rubber costume carries the entire film... The monster provides pure entertainment but nothing more than that. Incidentally, the almost King Kong-like ending can be called bizarre and it turns out that the monster is also gay (unless it was a woman in the first place of course).

My first encounter with Troma. I had heard of Troma before, but this is a completely different kind of film than the other films I had heard of. This film is more comedy than horror. There are kills but they are offscreen and there is no gore. The monster itself fortunately makes its entrance after about 25 minutes. Wonderfully over the top appearance with even a tongue that also turns out to be a monster (I have no idea how else to call it). The scene in which the army attacks the monster with heavy artillery is fun. Too bad the whole thing is hardly exciting.

A quite funny film at times, also starring a very young Paul Walker.

Well, troma horror, it's sometimes make or break. Not that much experience with it, my 4th I think, and all in all I can digest it, but I thought this one was ridiculously bad. It also all starts off very weak with a monster in the closet - hence the film title perhaps - who has it in for people. Only when it threatens to become interesting, the door closes or the camera turns away. Gone is the suspense...

Well, you get to see the monster later. Well, maybe it should have stayed in the closet. How bad! I thought it was more of a funny troll than a terrifying monster. Or a gorilla on the loose, that's also possible.

Of course all very low budget and many weaknesses in all sorts of areas. Nice to see once within the genre, good is something else.
