Saturday Night and Sunday Morning plot

"Saturday night you have your fling at life...and Sunday morning you face up to it!"

Arthur Seaton is a grumpy hedonist who almost explodes in indignation at work and lets himself go completely in his spare time. Arthur's father is alone at home in front of the TV, while his somewhat older friends have been falling for the trap called 'wife' for a while. After a relationship with a married woman, Arthur also gets engaged to a pretty but conventional girl, but still behaves very rebellious.

Saturday Night And Sunday Morning' was the debut film by Karel Reisz, who fled from Czechoslovakia to England. It was also one of the first kitchensink dramas, fiercely realistic stories set in a working-class environment. A very young Albert Finney plays the leading role of the rebellious, promiscuous and heavy-drinking Arthur, who is ultimately tamed into a down-and-out type. Britpop fans will enjoy the film. 'Whatever People Say I Am, I Am Not' says Arthur The Arctic Monkeys, while The Smiths ('There's A Light That Never Goes Out'), The Pale Fountains, The Stranglers, Madness and Franz Ferdinand also made tracks inspired by the movie.

Beautiful social English drama. Those who enjoyed “This Sporting Life” will probably appreciate this movie as well. Flawless transfer on Blu-ray from BFI.

A still young Finney, strange to see as I only know films of his in which he is a lot older.

Indeed, a nice sketch from the working-class environment of the 1960s with the residential area and the factory.

The story is also in line with Finney as a rebellious young tout who has no problem hooking up with a married woman and also has a young fling.
