Average Elvis movie. The fact that the content, story and dialogues are not special should not be news. Indeed, it doesn't get very cheesy and funny anywhere. Elvis also comes out of your nose at some point. Only for the hardcore Elvis fans this is still worth watching, as usual. 1.5.

Filmed in 16 days, this was Elvis's first quickie, or should we say Colonel Parker. Of the $1,300K budget, $750K went to Elvis and Parker as a fee. The rest could then be spent on the film. The production was in the hands of Sam Katzman, notorious for his cheap approach and approved by Parker because he could then collect a larger fee from the budget.

The sets are less than in previous films but there is enough craziness to entertain. A typical product of its time. The stereotypical approach to hillbillies was perhaps also typical of comedies at the time - anything but fresh - but as a 'stand alone watch' this isn't too bad. The thing with Elvis in a double role is weak and sloppily developed in terms of camera work. It doesn't seem very professional.

The songs were also recorded in a rush at 3 pm spread over 2 days. There are certainly most of them. Some songs are hated by the fans, but it is and remains a musical and within that context nothing abnormal.
