"Coincidence doesn't exist, everything happens for a reason."

Two angels are tasked with bringing the original Ten Commandments back to heaven and develop a masterful plan to achieve their goal. Their plan begins with the meeting on Earth of two very special men: astrologer Max Delius and the eccentric linguist Onno Quist. The men are immediately bosom friends and only allow the cellist Ada into their close friendship. Ada, Max and Onno travel to Cuba where Ada becomes pregnant by Quinten, whose father can be either Max or Onno. Is this special foursome capable of carrying out the angels' command?

In the beginning I was not so fond of the film (mainly because of the not so strong acting and ditto English accents) and the story is also quite special and you have to get used to it, but once you get used to it, the movie with you. In fact, the further the movie progressed, the better it got. In the last half hour the film really got going, especially with the quest (the film reminded me a bit of The Da Vinci Code).

As said before, the film doesn't really rely on the cast, but luckily the music was good.

I didn't really have great expectations for this movie and I haven't read the book either, so the movie was not that bad. Not that I need to see the film again, but despite the fact that the film lasted about two hours, it actually didn't bore me. Certainly not a topper, but I didn't think it was a recommendation either.

Worried film that stumbles over too much story, has too much content and doesn't know how to make a good summary of it.

And so it is with the rest. The images are restless - too much is crammed in there. But what really annoys me is the noise. Ugly voices, from the quarrel in heaven at the beginning. At the time I thought that was a moment, but it repeats itself quite a bit, and the rest is actually not better.

The story just doesn't want to get interesting. A bit symptomatic actually for a movie in which chapter titles are used. That seems to be the case very often.

The biggest problem with this movie is that it tries to cram a fairly voluminous story into 2 hours. That works in itself, all elements from the book are discussed, but they do not come off unscathed. Had the film been allowed to last two and a half hours, there could have been just a little more flesh on the bones. Now the film races past us at a killer pace, without taking the time to dwell on things that could give the film a little more depth. Why is it important that the tablets of stone be found; what drives Quinten? We won't find out. Likewise, a little more weight should have been given to the events in Rome, where father and son decide to steal the tablets, then devise a plan and execute it. In the book this was very exciting and I miss that in the movie.
Positive points: the sky is well and attractively designed; the casting: I thought all the actors fit the characters from the book and the acting is good. Onno's funny remarks are well illustrated.
