Loes Luca. I hate her since her role in Yes Sister No Sister, which is something I've considered therapy for after watching. No, those kinds of movies are not for me. It makes me grumpy, annoying and bitchy. Even more than usual. That's why I decided not to watch such films, it's more fun for friends I watch them with and also nicer for myself.

Still, the older kids at my work were eager to see this film. Ugh, not Loes I thought,

but when I saw the name Carice van Houten, I was somewhat taken aback. "Then it will be all right."

And yes, it did indeed work. Movies like this will never really get me excited. It's simply not my thing. Barry did a great job, as did the young cast (Although somehow I kept thinking about the boy from Insidious, which was quite distracting).

You have the bad people and the good people, something that often comes back in children's films, but it never feels disturbing or forced. It took me a while to get into the story, but I caught myself sometimes secretly having a smile on my face. Despite - in my eyes terrible - Loes Luca. Maybe just whine a little less and just pay attention to the good things in a movie, all those prejudices every time...

Nice Dutch children's film, to watch in the morning of New Year's Day.

The story is very simple, but the interpretation is quite nice. Visually, Lepel is particularly striking because of the striking bright colors that are used. Lots of red, yellow and green, which is often reflected in the houses, the cars and the store, where the story takes place for most of the time.

The actors do a decent job, and aren't remarkably good or bad. Joep Truijen is certainly not doing badly. Loes Luca is sometimes an annoying granny, and Van Houten and Atsma also fill their roles reasonably well, although they could have gotten a little more out of it.

But the story flows nicely, and it never bores or irritates. It's not all that high-quality, but if a children's film manages to put a smile on my face at the end, it has obviously done something good.
