Not very subtle and quite predictable. Two California beach boys, rich from growing and selling drugs, are forced to work with a Mexican drug cartel that is deeply interested in their secret recipe. I don't like the boys there. But when their mutual sweetheart is kidnapped and the same fate awaits as the rest of the unwilling members of the cartel, it's time to roll up their sleeves and fight. It's more than two hours of waiting for a original plot twist, some irony or some psychological depth. But alas: Oliver Stone shifts in a straight line from first, to second and to third and fourth gear. The ending (or actually two endings), is original. But not in a positive way. The good guys (Americans of course) are winning and the bad guys (the Mexicans of course) are left behind if they haven't been blown up yet.

B-movie with surprisingly little content. Characters leave you cold, plot twists unbelievable, and no depth. Disappointed.

A somewhat dated mix of action sex in which Ophelia (O) [Blake Lively] sleeps with both war veteran Chon [Taylor Kitsch] and his best friend Ben [Aarson Yaylor-Johnson]. Chon smuggles marijuana from Afghanistan and Ben manages to process it into a top product on the American drug market, making a fortune that easily finances their hedonistic life. Until Lado [Benicio Del Toro] comes to settle a score with Chad on behalf of Elena [Salma Hayek]. Full of Stone's signature visual tricks and there's a nice supporting role from John Travolta as a corrupt DEA agent, but the result is disappointingly superficial and Lively doesn't have to do much more than be pretty and strip down every now and then. Del Toro's colorful rendition turns out to be the great lifeline.
