Excellent movie. Surprisingly good, this 'Paperboy'. From minute one I was drawn into this warm, atmospheric and very entertaining trip. Director Lee Daniels pulled me into the film and it stayed that way until the very end. Excellent acting, also from Efron. Nothing to say about the cast. Daniels throws a fine filter over the whole, so that everything comes into its own even better from a technical point of view. The events are really fantastic at times; very weird and wonderful. The trips through the swamp, McConaughey getting kicked, etc. A pile of pure entertainment. Wonderful movie.

A messy film that seems to want to be different things: from love and crime via whodunnit and racial discrimination to coming of age. In fact, nothing really comes out so that the story remains an ordinary story, no more and no less. In addition, all kinds of things are dragged in that don't come back anywhere (homosexuality, cheating by a negro. Both were not accepted at that time). Efron is clearly used to attract younger (female) audiences, so often we see him shirtless or less. Too bad, because he deserves better. I don't understand why I often have to look at McConaughey's bare feet in films. Acting is strong, but the changing film styles don't make the film any better for me.

I saw this film for the first time at least 5 years ago. But it has always stayed with me.

Revisited again today and that's why I'm writing this review because I think this film is seriously underrated.

It is indeed a strange film that is beyond dispute and I found some scenes quite "strange" and perhaps a bit perverse.

But all in all, I think this is a very good movie.

Usually I think that Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey (both in their own way) always do the same trick.

I don't have that at all with this movie!

The story starts a bit slowly but continues to intrigue and the ending makes you "scratching behind your ears"

not a standard movie.

Definitely worth watching.
