After her beloved dressage horse she was promised is sold by the stable where she works, Gracieuse decides to give up and leaves to start over elsewhere. She decides to work at the stable of Joséphine de Silène, where the scepter is held by the infamous German trainer Franz Mann. This former champion has made himself completely unloved in the dressage world for his disdain for the rich and powerful who think they can make it.
