Une Belle Fille comme Moi plot

Camille is a lusty woman. She is always the center of men's attention and enjoys it to the fullest. To a certain extent: when men start acting annoying, Camille doesn't vouch for himself. Her father knew this already when she was nine. Now in prison for the murder of a Pied Piper she threw off a roof, she tells her story to a kind sociologist. This man is fascinated by this woman's stories. He asks the authorities if they want to release the woman. The woman is released, but the sociologist soon regrets his request.

I've seen quite a few Truffaut films by now, and I find this one by far the weakest. It's a largely unsuccessful comedy that refuses to be truly funny. Bernadette Lafont is still okay, but the rest of the cast completely fails. The same goes for the story. A complete disappointment.

Bernadette Lafont in a role typical of most of her career: provocative, voluptuous... and this time in "Une belle Fille comme moi" she truly holds nothing back.

This film by Truffaut is superficial and based on an American series in which a sociologist was supposed to write an essay about "Les femmes criminelles" (Criminal Women), but ended up immersed in the life of his interviewee.

Saw the film years ago and actually found it quite pleasant after this rewatch.

There's a lot of overacting, including by a number of supporting actors who are household names in French cinema: Claude Brasseur, Charles Denner, Guy Marchand, André Dussollier, Philippe Liétard...

Perhaps it was precisely because of this respectable cast that the film received a certain revaluation in retrospect.

A delightful comedy that thrives on satire. Not a knee-slapper, but tongue-in-cheek, though there are also a few overtly funny scenes. This tone is maintained throughout the film.

The narrative is cleverly constructed with flashbacks, the puzzles finally coming together. Good acting and excellent direction make for a fresh, entertaining work.
