Although I only saw the Berlin Wall for the first time this year, I have always been fascinated by this bizarre structure. A 3.5-meter-high wall, right through the city… in Western Europe! Until 1989, it was the daily reality for millions of Berliners.
Curiously enough, a film about the division of the city had already been released in 1962, a year after the start of the construction of the Wall. Admittedly, Escape from East Berlin is somewhat dated; at times, the grim daily life in Berlin comes across convincingly.
The pace is quite slow and the atmosphere of The Spy Who Came in from The Cold, from 1965, is not captured. Nevertheless, the actors are fine and the visuals are beautiful. A solid passing grade is therefore appropriate.

This one really disappointed me; the setting was well done, but the acting is quite mediocre. Still, the story is exciting, but much better escape films have been made around this theme.
